At Handside Osteopathy, I believe in treating the whole person — not just the symptoms. Located in the heart of Welwyn Garden City, my clinic offers a calm and supportive environment where patients of all ages can receive personalised, hands-on care.
As an experienced osteopath and naturopath, I take the time to understand your lifestyle, health history, and individual needs. My goal is to help you feel better, move better, and live better through gentle, effective osteopathic care.

Barbara Sherringham
Barbara graduated from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine (BCOM) in 1996 with a first class honours degree in osteopathic medicine. The training involved four years of full-time education.
Barbara’s working week is divided between her practice in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire and the Alan Herdman Pilates Studio in central London W2. She was a senior lecturer at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine for 19 years, teaching first through to fourth year osteopathic students.
As a junior, Barbara competed at national level in the 400m athletics event. Plagued by injury, she became interested in sports rehabilitation and qualified as a sports massage therapist in 1980. She worked in the leisure industry for over 12 years, gaining specialist qualifications in rehabilitative exercise, working with pre/post natal women, the over 50s, weight and circuit training.
Whilst studying for her degree she was introduced to Pilates and has worked alongside Alan Herdman, who introduced Pilates to the UK in 1970. It is at his studio that Barbara runs her London clinic.
As well as an interest in sports injuries, Barbara has also worked with musicians — particularly violinists and flutists who often suffer shoulder, neck and upper back pain.

The Olympics & osteopathy
A total of 25 osteopaths were involved, caring for athletes and their medical staff in the polyclinics at the Olympic Village, Eton Dorney and Weymouth. This was a historic moment for osteopathy — the first time osteopaths had been represented at the Games.
Being selected as part of the Team GB medical team was a true honour — representing not only myself, but the profession.
Working in a multidisciplinary clinic was enlightening: GPs, sports doctors, pharmacists, dentists, radiographers, nurses, physiotherapists, chiropractors and sports massage therapists, all supporting athletes together.
Working with the Paralympians was humbling and among the most gratifying work I have ever done. They may have been physically challenged — but definitely not disabled.
